San Francisco Castro LGBTQ+ Commercial Area

A quick trip to downtown San Francisco to tour the famous LGBTQ+ area was a surprising pleasant visit with the iconic rainbow flags, pedestrian four way rainbow intersection, and embedded bronze sidewalk plaques of famous gay people! Most of the businesses street front window displays showed the colorful rainbow as a symbol of hope and pride in being an ‘out’ location. The city certainly designated a large commercial area of several blocks wide to accommodate the gay friendly businesses:  restaurants, stores, book shops, banks, drop-in center, museum, clothing and jewelry stores, hair salons and barber shops etcetera. For tourists and curiosity seekers including S (straight) allies, get out of your box and explore the neighborhood and take selfies for social media, plus read the plaques of famous gay women and gay men who contributed to society.
